SH17026

35mm film photograph, 2017

The Pearl Tower 东方明珠塔 was one of the only skyscrapers on the Bund when my mom first moved to Shanghai in the 1980s, and growing up in the 2000s it was still the standing symbol of Shanghai. It has recently been overshadowed by the construction of the Shanghai World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower. My mom once brought me to a revolving restaurant inside the Pearl Tower. I was maybe six at the time and don’t remember the food, but I really enjoyed the experience. She didn’t tell me the restaurant was moving at first! I was like Wait! Mom we’re goin’ in circles! Haha.
